About the CIO
Associate Provost, Chief Information Officer, Executive Director of Center for Applied Informatics
Timothy C. Ferguson is the Associate Provost and Chief Information Officer for Information Technology at Northern Kentucky University. He is responsible for the technology infrastructure, application management and development, help desk, telecommunications, network, mobile and web areas. Tim is also responsible for the enterprise systems group that manages the SAP administrative systems and data warehouse at NKU.
Computerworld recognized Tim with the 2011 Premier 100 IT Leaders award. He is a member of the Leadership Board for CIOs, which serves as a think-tank on the topic of technology in higher education. Tim also serves on the Dell Platinum Advisory Council and the SAP Higher Education Advisory Council, as well as the CIO Summit Advisory Board for UBTech 2012, higher education’s premier technology, leadership and vision conference. Tim’s teams were recognized for forward-thinking technology with the 2008 Best of Kentucky Technology Visionary Award and the 2011 Best of Kentucky Technology Award.
In addition to his role as CIO, Tim also leads the Center for Applied Informatics. CAI is a technology collaboration platform and is part of the College of Informatics. It was established to work on technology innovations that assist international companies in being competitive in a global technology-driven marketplace. This innovative research includes social, web and leadership in mobile application development for iOS, android and many other platforms. Tim serves on the advisory board for the PulsePoint Foundation, which partnered with CAI to launch an award-winning fire department app (http://www.firedepartment.mobi/).
Prior to joining NKU in 2005, Tim was Senior Vice President at Computer Associates International, Inc., where he led the enterprise systems management business unit, which includes research and development functions. Tim has a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and mathematics from NKU where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.
